Nation's largest trade show to track carbon output

The Consumer Electronics Association has teamed up with Planet Metrics, a carbon management information company, to gauge and analyze carbon and other greenhouse gasses emitted by CES, the nation's largest trade show. The event takes place in Las Vegas from January 8-11.

"Having the ability to measure and track performance through time will enable CEA to understand the reality of actual carbon output, set reduction targets, effectively reducing the environmental impact of the show," said Andy Leventhal, CEO and co-founder of Planet Metrics.

Planners of CES expect more than 130,000 people. Planet Metrics will work to track attendees' carbon generated by travel, electricity, fuel use and hotel stays. The company has already been working with CES for several months.

"The greening of the International CES reflects the consumer electronics industry's commitment to environmentally sustainable practices," said Parker Brugge, vice president of environmental affairs and industry sustainability for CEA. "Attendees at the 2009 CES will witness the latest green technology innovations from among more than 2,700 exhibitors, and see how the industry's largest event takes a leading role in understanding and promoting pro-environment policies."
