Anschutz Company buys eco-conscious Xanterra Parks and Resorts
Denver-based Xanterra Parks & Resorts has announced its sale to the Anschutz Company, a holding company started by multibillionaire Philip F. Anschutz, founder of Qwest Communications.Xanterra, considered a leader in Earth-friendliness within the hospitality industry, owns and runs lodges and other concessions at Yellowstone, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Crater Lake, Petrified Forest and Rocky Mountain National Parks and other sites. According to the company, it operates more than 5,000 guest rooms, 55 retail stores and 68 restaurants as well as marinas, golf courses and campsites.
“We are very pleased to be affiliated with the Anschutz Company,” said Andrew N. Todd, president and CEO of Xanterra Parks & Resorts. “The Anschutz Company appreciates our extensive and innovative environmental programs as well as Xanterra’s great potential for growth. There are no plans to change the structure or the management of Xanterra.”
Recently, Xanterra won the National Park Service’s 2008 Environmental Achievement Award in recognition of the company’s construction of one of the largest solar energy systems in the U.S.
